Experience the Big NewSky @ Big Brewsky

Big Brewsky is one of the most happening places in Bengaluru right now. Known for its biggest micro-brewery, old-school ambiance, rooftop bar, centrally located pool, music deck and everything which left us mesmerized!

A couple of weeks ago, we attended the launch of their new menu called Big NewSky! The game plan was simple, we start the evening with a cook-off guided by Chef Saby himself, a tour to the new Big Brewsky and party hard till wee hours. As we settled down, it all changed to Chef Saby demonstrating us the new dishes while we sipped down to Karthik’s new concoctions and partied till the end.
Chef Saby

Of all the new additions, Chef Saby was kind enough to share the secrets to Corn Spinach Shoe Rolls and Tomato Black Rice Mushroom Risotto! Corn Spinach Shoe had me going the entire evening, a crispy munch stuffed with sweet corn, spinach, garlic and spices added to the taste. Black Rice Mushroom Risotto was a level apart from most of my previous tries. The combination of arborio rice and mushroom, slowly cooked with truffle essence gave it a soft and creamy texture.

The bar has seen new additions too! My Old Pal and The Great Pretender were our favorites from the long list! Why? – My Old Pal for its espresso and caramel mixture while The Great Pretender for its tequila and color! A huge shot out to Mixologist Karthik for coming up with such amazing drinks.

Cocktails

The music deck is one of it’s kind! They’ve an interesting choice of genre for each day and as a tribute for Sixties music, bands perform live on Sunday’s while one can relax with their special brunch spread. Overall, the Big Brewsky has gone big and innovative with Food, Beer, Drinks and Music, which attracts the crowd of Namma bengaluru.

Few more dishes to make you drool 😀

Freakshakes and Sheesha at Cafe Azzure

Cafe Azzure is a new rooftop sheesha place located in MG Road. It has a quiet indoor seating and outdoor seating (which tends to become noisy at peak hours). I was here with few of my friends after hearing about their unique hookah flavors and interesting freak-shakes!

The first drink that caught our attention was Blue Heaven, probably one of the best mocktails served here – bright color with refreshing flavor is all I needed after a sunny ride! Apart from this, Mango Margarita and Green Apple Mojito were on the list which took a back seat when compared to Blue Heaven.
freakshakes

Nachos is my default order at all places, so ordered Schezwan Chicken Nachos. Crispy bites, creamy, cheesy, spicy chicken chunks and tangy salsa – easy peasy! Sesame Chicken Strips was well seasoned but had become little soggy by the time we ate them. Cheesy Jalapeno Balls could’ve been made of creamy cheese to get the stringy feel.
freakshakes

Milkshakes, more like freak-shakes are now being a common trend among cafes! Taste, richness, and presentation is the key for a successful shake and Cafe Azzure has nearly-perfected with three of their shakes – Chocolate Freakshake, Nutella Shake & Ferrero Rocher Shake! Chocolate Freakshake is a combo of chocolate milkshake and Kitkat, well balanced throughout making it a must try! Nutella Shake and Ferrero Rocher Shake were blissful and filling much, only if I could’ve more of them!
freakshakes

Cafe Azzure’s Special 7 Wonders kept us going for most of the evening with its unique mixture of flavors! I’d suggest this, if you would like to try something new, else prefer the normal ones. Sulemani Tea is an odd addition, but it’s that worked way better with sheesha compared to other mocktails.
freakshakes

Thinking of Creamy White sauce pasta still makes me droooool, calories overloaded but it didn’t stop me from going for a second round! Twisted Chicken Pizza is from Instagram to Instagram and for Instagram – I’d been wanting to make this myself but never got the chance and ordered it right away without second thoughts. While the filling was on point, the base could’ve been softer. When asked for their specialty/most selling dish, we were directed towards Cheese Crumb Chicken and it was evident as to why. Chicken wrapped in crumbs, baked, sliced and topped with generous amount of cheese just took us to another level of cheesiness!
freakshakes

Things got cheesier with Mascarpone Brownie! Light, chocolatey and brownie :D! With this, I called it a day while my friends went on for another dessert.

Being at the heart of the city means, keeping up with the competition is important. While most of the items that we tried turned out to be good, there are a few things (like consistency in-between same orders, flavors of few mocktails, and type of ingredients in some of the dishes) they need to work on. Service can be improved in terms of quickness and approach to the customers. If they figure these things out, the place will pick up in the coming days! I’d definitely be back for freakshakes and pasta 🙂

Burrp – Cuisine Crawl, Masterclass & more at Airport!

The sight of people waiting for their loved ones to arrive, a bunch of people with their cabin bags and luggage, people waiting for their turn to board the flights, cops, security guards,  air hostess, and others… The cool breeze, lush greenery, souvenir shops, a chain of eating houses, taxis and more…  How astounding it is to be at the airport!

Everybody loves food walk, but what makes it more interesting is “An Airport Foodwalk!” Along with fellow food bloggers, we were all set to enter the Airport. In no time we set our foot into the airport as all the security measures were taken care. This was the first time we went out on a food walk organized by team Burrp and we have to say that we were lifted off the air with their job. There are multiple restaurants open on Domestic and International Terminals, out of which three restaurants were on our list.

airport

Tiffin Centre was our first stop, a restaurant well known for it’s South Indian delicacies. It’s on the upper level of Domestic Terminal. It is popular for its ambiance and authenticity in terms of  preparation of recipes and taste. The ingredients used are imported from the place of origin and every dish has it’s own story to tell. ‘Wall of Chillies’, Chettinad columns, wooden interiors are few of the highlighting features of this place.
airport

On the menu we had, Piping hot Rasam and Nannari Sherbet for appetizers continued with Mirchi Bhajji and Masala Vada. On the other side of the non-vegetarian platter, we had Rava Fish Fry and Chicken Lollipop. Also, we got to see the complete meal platter.
airport

A few steps ahead and you find yourself at La Alta Vita, an Italian restaurant. The bright interiors, green wall, and hanging lamps are few elements that caught our attention.
airport

Olive, Tomato, and Cheese Bruschetta is not to miss if you’re at an Italian restaurant, especially here. Chicken Arancini, fried rice ball stuffed with chicken is something that we liked! Zucchini Fritters, Zucchini fried to perfect crisp and went along with the dip.
airport

The last stop for the day was at La Tapenade, a Mediterranean Cafe which overlooks the International Terminal. They are known for sandwiches, fresh baked bread, cheesecakes, fresh fruit juices and wide varieties of pizzas.
airport

The most exciting part of the walk was masterclass held by executive Chef Murali who taught us how to prepare Penne in Pomodoro sauce, Moroccan Couscous & Chicken Tagine. Also, Chef threw light on different parts of Mediterranean region, their food styles and especially about Moroccan dishes. Though there were restrictions in using fire, knives, and other cutlery, Chef pulled off a great show.

Our lunch had a widespread of items including from the new menu. Harira Soup, Greek Salad, a couple of Pizzas, Moroccan Couscous and Chicken Tagine, Penne in Pomodoro sauce from the masterclass session. No meal is complete without desserts. We tried Chef’s way of Banoffee Pie, Raspberry Cheese Cake, and Tiramisu. Banoffee pie is a must try for caramel lovers!

The three restaurants – Tiffin Centre, La Alta Vita, and Le Tapenade are managed by HMS Host who specialize in Airport restaurants all over the world. With the team’s way of managing things, it was hard to believe that this was Burrp’s  first venture in organizing food walks. Three cheers to the entire team for making it a great journey.

We had an informative as well amazing day at the airport. Happy Burrping! 🙂

Cooking with Chef’s Basket

Hunger strikes at random times and ready-to-cook kits are the only life savior. With many ready-to-cook kits available, Chef’s Basket has taken it to a whole new level. They have managed to compose Italian flavors into pasta box and Oriental aromas into the noodle box. The kits consist of sauces rather than normal masala powder.

Chef’s Basket believes in the art of cooking and with a little help, anybody can cook. They have most authentic recipes from all over the world so that trying new cuisines won’t be a restaurant affair.

A couple of weeks ago, we were at Something’s Cooking as participants for a cook-off event hosted by Chef’s Basket. A team of three was formed and were given a task to complete. In a time limit of one hour, each team had to dish up two recipes, which sounds really interesting and exciting.

IMG_20160521_171705

How did we manage to do? It’s as simple as following instructions on the box or make your own pasta/noodles. Each team was given a table of groceries and veggies. We choose to cook Cheesy Alfredo Pasta and we also made our own dish, a combo of Chunky Arrabbiata – Creamy Pesto, named it Duos Pasta. So we started by chopping the required vegetables like Bell peppers, carrots and pan frying them on a low flame. In another pan, we started boiling pasta in salt water. Keeping aside the pasta once boiled for ten minutes. Now we add sauce provided in the kit separately to the pan with veggies and later add pasta. Finally seasoned with herbs and chili flakes. For duos pasta, we plated together which gave it a colorful appearance. Voila! Our Cheesy Alfredo Pasta and Duos Pasta were ready to eat.

Duos Pasta and Tangy Sichuan Noodles

For noodles, we choose Kung Pao and Tangy Sichuan which followed the similar process.

Kung Pao Noodles and Cheesy Alfredo Pasta

In simple words, Chef’s Basket manufactures kits that makes cooking easier for everyone. Kudos to the innovation team for putting forth these products.

Try it out 🙂
