#431, Forklore Bistro: Brunch and Conversations!

Forklore, a bistro tucked away on the busy 80ft Road. Bright white and blue walls, lush green herb garden, welcoming staff, few novels, good music, great company, and amazing food is the best way to describe Forklore. A sweet home well transformed into a bistro.

The Bistro is looked up by a young couple, Tripti & Sanjay – A passionate chef and rock band artist, who prove that food and music go hand-in-hand!

We were here with a couple of friends for Sunday Brunch on invite! There’s nothing greater than a conversation with like-minded folks! We spoke for more than 4hours, the food got us stuck to our chairs 😀

Well, we started off with Fruity Booty, in-house Sangria which can get anyone going for a second glass. A non-traditional smooth drink with hints of fruits in each sip! The fruity juice pack flavors while balancing out the wine. And not to forget one of our bloggers replaced her water glass with Sangria! Would you fancy this booty?

As we indulged in sangria, Egg and Mushroom Pies were served. A puff and crispy base topped with sunny-side-up egg, herbs, and caramelized onions left us to drool. Mushroom Pie was topped with generous amount of spicy mushroom and mayonnaise. Chai loved the Egg pie while the others loved Mushroom pie!

Salads are something which doesn’t amaze us, but the watermelon and feta salad proved it wrong! A plate full of in-house grown herbs, topped with chunks of watermelon, balsamic vinegar, hints of honey and the sourness from the cream made this salad a great one.

On the same note, next up was Chicken and Smoked Sausage Salad topped with lettuce, olives, onions and garlic vinaigrette. This again proved me wrong, and makes me wonder how a salad could taste so good!

Pancakes are something that’s always been just a dessert for us and Forklore has taken it to next level with fillings in it. A sweet and savory dish, stuffed either with Maple Bacon or Carrot-Spring Onion topped with sour cream, leaves you wondering how a dish can be worked on to give a new taste!

Steak is a common dish but barely prepared right in most of the places. Without much expectations, we tried Chicken Steak (with Lemon Butter Sauce), Lamb steak (with BBQ Sauce and Creamy Mushroom) with mashed potatoes. The chicken was perfectly cooked, went so good with mashed potatoes but Lamb could’ve been a little better.

Lamb Pizza (with Harrisa Sauce) is when things got cheesier! Thin crust, tangy-spicy sauce, generous cheese topping just melted my heart. This is Nav’s fav pizza from the list he has tried!

Hawaiian Pizza caught my eyes! The thin crust lavishly topped with melting cheese, colorful bell peppers, olives, a layer of tomato sauce with hints of garlic flavor, baby corn and slices of pineapple.

Monk in the middle, must try dessert if you love chocolate. Layers of melting dark chocolate with hints of rum flavor. Strawberry Fields Forever was our favorite dessert. A bowl of yogurt filled with fresh strawberries and crunchy bits of walnut added to the taste.

The waiters were a little off in terms of menu knowledge and nevertheless, the service went on well. Three cheers to Chef Tripti and Mr. Sanjay who is the man behind her 🙂 We enjoyed your playlist, sir. Thank you.

Prices are on a little higher end, but definitely worth the try. Highly recommended 🙂

Jackfruit365 – A new take on Jackfruit!

Sunday mornings are usually lazy, but the last Sunday was different. We were invited to try and taste the jackfruit infused recipes by Jackfruit365! Jackfruit365 is a venture which aims at replacing apple or potato with jackfruit in a variety of dishes without giving up on the taste.

Jackfruit is one of the healthiest fruit which sits on the extremes when it comes to someone liking it with a majority of (85-90%) people who love to have jackfruit in all forms while the remaining (10-15%) don’t like due to its aroma and taste.

There’s a saying – “If you have a jackfruit tree in the backyard, your lifespan is up by 10years”; This shows how much beneficial jackfruit is! There’s a long list of healthy benefits, highlights are
– Strengthens the immune system
– Reduces the risk of heart disease
– Regulates blood sugar level
– Regulates blood pressure
– Prevents intestinal diseases

The event started with a speech from Mr. James Joseph, founder of Jackfruit365. He spoke about jackfruit and how the company came into being! Jackfruit is cut down from the tree 2days prior to ripening, it’s processed and deeply frozen which can be used for longer duration!

Then came a long list of dishes prepared from Jackfruit365. First up was Jackfruit Smoothie – High on jackfruit flavors, thick and topped with mango chunks, pomegranate, and mint leaves.

Jackfruit Galouti Kebab was no different from other kebabs. It was served on Indian bread topped with cream, must try a quick bite.

Jackfruit Bonda – Unlike other aloo bondas, Raw jackfruit infused bonda tasted more better than the normal ones.

Idli’s are too mainstream, so Mangaloreans came up with Moode. Moode is a way of cooking Idli’s wrapped in the leaf which gives it good flavors. Jackfruit Moode is another way to savor the flavors without having to giving up on taste.

Jackfruit Paniyaram were small, fluffy and delight. Also known as Gundponglu, they were served with chutney which went great together.

Just when we thought we had enough jackfruit for the day, we were surprised by Jackfruit Waffles and Pancakes. The waffles were soft and tasted good with maple syrup. Fluffy, soft, perfectly baked pancakes served with maple syrup and drizzled with sugar was heavenly.

All in all, Jackfruit can be used as five types – Raw Form, Ripe Jackfruit, Seeds, Substitute for flesh and as source of carbohydrates.
