#431, Forklore Bistro: Brunch and Conversations!

Forklore, a bistro tucked away on the busy 80ft Road. Bright white and blue walls, lush green herb garden, welcoming staff, few novels, good music, great company, and amazing food is the best way to describe Forklore. A sweet home well transformed into a bistro.

The Bistro is looked up by a young couple, Tripti & Sanjay – A passionate chef and rock band artist, who prove that food and music go hand-in-hand!

We were here with a couple of friends for Sunday Brunch on invite! There’s nothing greater than a conversation with like-minded folks! We spoke for more than 4hours, the food got us stuck to our chairs 😀

Well, we started off with Fruity Booty, in-house Sangria which can get anyone going for a second glass. A non-traditional smooth drink with hints of fruits in each sip! The fruity juice pack flavors while balancing out the wine. And not to forget one of our bloggers replaced her water glass with Sangria! Would you fancy this booty?

forklore (1)

As we indulged in sangria, Egg and Mushroom Pies were served. A puff and crispy base topped with sunny-side-up egg, herbs, and caramelized onions left us to drool. Mushroom Pie was topped with generous amount of spicy mushroom and mayonnaise. Chai loved the Egg pie while the others loved Mushroom pie!

forklore (3)

Salads are something which doesn’t amaze us, but the watermelon and feta salad proved it wrong! A plate full of in-house grown herbs, topped with chunks of watermelon, balsamic vinegar, hints of honey and the sourness from the cream made this salad a great one.

forklore (4)

On the same note, next up was Chicken and Smoked Sausage Salad topped with lettuce, olives, onions and garlic vinaigrette. This again proved me wrong, and makes me wonder how a salad could taste so good!

forklore (5)

Pancakes are something that’s always been just a dessert for us and Forklore has taken it to next level with fillings in it. A sweet and savory dish, stuffed either with Maple Bacon or Carrot-Spring Onion topped with sour cream, leaves you wondering how a dish can be worked on to give a new taste!

forklore (7)

forklore (6)

Steak is a common dish but barely prepared right in most of the places. Without much expectations, we tried Chicken Steak (with Lemon Butter Sauce), Lamb steak (with BBQ Sauce and Creamy Mushroom) with mashed potatoes. The chicken was perfectly cooked, went so good with mashed potatoes but Lamb could’ve been a little better.

forklore (8)

Lamb Pizza (with Harrisa Sauce) is when things got cheesier! Thin crust, tangy-spicy sauce, generous cheese topping just melted my heart. This is Nav’s fav pizza from the list he has tried!

forklore (9)

Hawaiian Pizza caught my eyes! The thin crust lavishly topped with melting cheese, colorful bell peppers, olives, a layer of tomato sauce with hints of garlic flavor, baby corn and slices of pineapple.

forklore (10)

Monk in the middle, must try dessert if you love chocolate. Layers of melting dark chocolate with hints of rum flavor. Strawberry Fields Forever was our favorite dessert. A bowl of yogurt filled with fresh strawberries and crunchy bits of walnut added to the taste.

forklore (11)

The waiters were a little off in terms of menu knowledge and nevertheless, the service went on well. Three cheers to Chef Tripti and Mr. Sanjay who is the man behind her 🙂 We enjoyed your playlist, sir. Thank you.

Prices are on a little higher end, but definitely worth the try. Highly recommended 🙂

Biryani a day, keeps me yaay!

There are days when I wake up to the essence of Biryani, courtesy of mom (of course*). But then there are days when mom’s out of station and I just crave them. I’m a fan of the regular joints such as Shivaji, Paradise, Meghana, and Nagarjuna. But the love to discover local/lesser known places never fades. This blog post is a result of the exploration. Here are 6 lesser-known joints which serve scrumptious biryani in Namma Bengaluru.

Srinagar Kabab Center
Also known as Celtrapolis, is located near Srinagar Bus Stand. They serve pudina flavored biryani, both mutton, and chicken along with few other gravy recipes. Don’t forget to order a plate of chili chicken too!
Price for two: ₹300
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/XJkpsTi5ijG2

Srinagar Kabab Center.jpg

New Gowda’s Fried Chicken
Also known as GFC, is famous among the locals for being featured on a regional TV show. The biryani served here is kinda mid-way between Donne and Ambur! Kabab is the side dish you can get here.
Price for 2: ₹250
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/dJvdL5dYuEE2
New Gowda's Fried Chicken.jpg

SGS Non-Veg/Akkipete Biryani
I guess this is the only place I’ve been hogging since my childhood. Back then as takeaways and now as breakfast 😀 Menu is pretty simple with just the Chicken Biryani and Rice.
Price for 2: ₹200
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/onghJZYBg3B2

Akkipete.jpg

Papanna’s Biryani
Lazy Evenings = No Cooking = Papanna Time 😀 Andhra style and Naati Style Biryani are one of tastiest in the neighborhood! And not to forget the daily changing sides menu and Mutton Biryani (limited to Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday*), makes it different from other places.
Price for 2: ₹300
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/MqNHja2KjEvPapanna.jpg

Sri Maruthi Hotel
My breakfast Adda on weekends! It’s a Pudina flavored biryani, looks similar to the one served at Srinagar Kabab Center but entirely different taste-wise. You can also try their Dose and Paratha with chili chicken.
Price for 2: ₹300
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/zZZrnjiC2ev

Sri Maruthi Hotel.jpg

Biryani Day
In and around Malleshwaram, this is my best bet! Even though there are a lot of places, but none of them had me going back except for this place. They serve donne biryani and the menu has a couple of sides too.
Price for 2: ₹300
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/apLpdQgZfHT2B-Day.jpg

Disclaimer – Prices are subjected to change on how much you plan on eating! I ain’t affiliated with any of these restaurants. And also I’ve visited all these places on my own, many times before making this post. I’m not saying they are the best, but few of the good places I’ve come across! My fat belly and an empty wallet is the proof of the same 😛

Happy Burping 😀

Burrp – Cuisine Crawl, Masterclass & more at Airport!

The sight of people waiting for their loved ones to arrive, a bunch of people with their cabin bags and luggage, people waiting for their turn to board the flights, cops, security guards,  air hostess, and others… The cool breeze, lush greenery, souvenir shops, a chain of eating houses, taxis and more…  How astounding it is to be at the airport!

Everybody loves food walk, but what makes it more interesting is “An Airport Foodwalk!” Along with fellow food bloggers, we were all set to enter the Airport. In no time we set our foot into the airport as all the security measures were taken care. This was the first time we went out on a food walk organized by team Burrp and we have to say that we were lifted off the air with their job. There are multiple restaurants open on Domestic and International Terminals, out of which three restaurants were on our list.

airport

Tiffin Centre was our first stop, a restaurant well known for it’s South Indian delicacies. It’s on the upper level of Domestic Terminal. It is popular for its ambiance and authenticity in terms of  preparation of recipes and taste. The ingredients used are imported from the place of origin and every dish has it’s own story to tell. ‘Wall of Chillies’, Chettinad columns, wooden interiors are few of the highlighting features of this place.
airport

On the menu we had, Piping hot Rasam and Nannari Sherbet for appetizers continued with Mirchi Bhajji and Masala Vada. On the other side of the non-vegetarian platter, we had Rava Fish Fry and Chicken Lollipop. Also, we got to see the complete meal platter.
airport

A few steps ahead and you find yourself at La Alta Vita, an Italian restaurant. The bright interiors, green wall, and hanging lamps are few elements that caught our attention.
airport

Olive, Tomato, and Cheese Bruschetta is not to miss if you’re at an Italian restaurant, especially here. Chicken Arancini, fried rice ball stuffed with chicken is something that we liked! Zucchini Fritters, Zucchini fried to perfect crisp and went along with the dip.
airport

The last stop for the day was at La Tapenade, a Mediterranean Cafe which overlooks the International Terminal. They are known for sandwiches, fresh baked bread, cheesecakes, fresh fruit juices and wide varieties of pizzas.
airport

The most exciting part of the walk was masterclass held by executive Chef Murali who taught us how to prepare Penne in Pomodoro sauce, Moroccan Couscous & Chicken Tagine. Also, Chef threw light on different parts of Mediterranean region, their food styles and especially about Moroccan dishes. Though there were restrictions in using fire, knives, and other cutlery, Chef pulled off a great show.

Our lunch had a widespread of items including from the new menu. Harira Soup, Greek Salad, a couple of Pizzas, Moroccan Couscous and Chicken Tagine, Penne in Pomodoro sauce from the masterclass session. No meal is complete without desserts. We tried Chef’s way of Banoffee Pie, Raspberry Cheese Cake, and Tiramisu. Banoffee pie is a must try for caramel lovers!

The three restaurants – Tiffin Centre, La Alta Vita, and Le Tapenade are managed by HMS Host who specialize in Airport restaurants all over the world. With the team’s way of managing things, it was hard to believe that this was Burrp’s  first venture in organizing food walks. Three cheers to the entire team for making it a great journey.

We had an informative as well amazing day at the airport. Happy Burrping! 🙂

Dilli Wali Khau Galli Festival – BARBEQUE NATION

What if you could really get to eat the Dilli’s good food, say from Golgappa to Chole Kulche, from Jamoon to Shahi Tukda, from Mughlai dum biriyani to Akbar Ali kabab under one roof? Sounds interesting!

You heard us right, BBQ Nation is celebrating Dilli Wali Khau Galli Festival, majorly based on Delhi’s cuisine. With fellow food lovers, we were happy to be a part of this food festival.

The Delhi setup starts right from the door and continues to the interiors, paintings of Dilli’s famous monuments and colorful flyers. The menu brought the best of Dilli dishes from chats to biryani!

Mango Punch, Gleeche and few other appetizers to start off the evening. Continued with Chats Counter hosted a variety of Dilli’s street food like Golgappa, Dhai Vada, Hariyali Kebab, Chole Kulche and Dahi Papdi. It was a level apart from what you find in streets of Bangalore.

Barbeque Nation is known for its DIY on the grill and with the fest going on, it just got better. Veg starters had Pudina Ananas ki Tikke, Tandoori Malai Kumbh and Dhelvi Panner on grill, Cajun Spiced Potato and Dahi Kebab off the grill. Marination had a touch of Delhi spices. As always Crispy Corn is one thing we’ll never get tired of.

Non-Veg starters were as good as veg counterparts with Surkh Fish Tikka, Murgh Angaara and Nimoda Jhinga on grill. Dilli Dhaba Murgh and Mutton Adraki Seekh off the grill. DDM was perfectly cooked, tender and with spices being on the point stood out from the rest.

IMG_20160728_202040 copy

The main course had a variety of dishes! It left us confused with what to choose and what to skip. Pot Biryani/Pulao like Sarai Ki Mughlai Dum, Paneer Biriyani and Chandini Chowk ki Subz biryani were the best among all. Aloo Katliya was a new take on potato, with slices boiled and tossed with spices which gave a unique punch.

Who doesn’t have a separate appetite for desserts? Shahi Tukda and Galiyon ki Firni caught our attention because of its great texture and flavors. Apart from these, there were Jamoon, Blueberry Cheesecake, Dark Brownie, Fruit Gataux, Tiramisu and Ice Cream. They tasted as yummy as they sound.

dilli

It was just not about food and decor, but it was also about entertaining the crowd. The music and dance kept the whole atmosphere bright.

dilli

Come and be a part of Dilli Wali Khau Galli Festival. Visit any of the outlets (Lido Mall, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Whitefield, Kammanahalli and Electronic City) before 7th August to dine on exclusive Delhi dishes without having to travel to Delhi.

Three cheers to the entire team and happy helpers who served us extremely well at the Lido Mall Outlet 🙂

Fun Game Evening at Underdoggs Sports Bar & Grill

If you’re in search of crazy good places to play, gulp down some amazing drinks, have fun while munching on wide range of dishes, Underdoggs Sports Bar and Grill is the exact place you need to be.

Underdoggs offers unique drinks and scrumptious food that goes together. Apart from sports viewing, there are various games like Pool Tables, Table Tennis, Dart Boards, Foosball and X-Box are few to name. Coco Cola Golden Spoon Awards, Indian Resturant Congress Award and Times Food & Nightlife Awards are few of the winning titles that adds pride to the feather of Underdoggs 🙂

IMG_20160313_180605

We were here with fellow bloggers to try their new games and taste food.  The newest entry for the game was Beer Pong, a great way to spend time if you love to drink beer 😀 Cleared the first round, but ended at second with a draw.

The list of new food & drinks on the menu was long. We started with Gayle Rum Runner and Mary Kom Cooler. Gayle Rum Runner, was bit on the sweeter side just the way we like it. White rum and fruits made it a great start. Mary Kom Cooler was on dot with the hints of cucumber. Apple and khus with sprite just made it better.

IMG_20160313_182321

To accompany the drinks, we had some quick bites. We had a list of signature dips to choose from,  for the Chicken Wings – 14 to be exact out of which 4 were new. We choose Desi Spice and Butter Chicken, both being new flavours, tasted just delicious.

IMG_20160313_182406

IMG_20160313_180436

Next up was the Signature Naan Rolls. All these days, we used to have Naan as a bread with curries, but this one is entirely different. Small  bread spread served with Indian favourites as toppings, to be tried in taco style – roll them up and just enjoy 😛

IMG_20160313_180229

Cinnamon Whiskey Shots

IMG_20160313_183738

Lychee Kamikaze was a huge burst flavour which is made up of Lychee Vodka, Triple Sec, lime and lemon. Robin Van Berry, a long glass drink made up of passion fruit, orange, mint and soda.

IMG_20160313_190719

Popcorn Shrimps is a must if you love fried chicken popcorns. Soft and tender and yet crispy outside.  It was served with lemon  slices, tomato salsa and mayonnaise.

Hot Ranch Chicken Pizza

Makhani Pizza

IMG_20160313_185853

Tandoori Dim Sums – We liked the way it was served and the dips were tasty. Thumbs up for this dish.

IMG_20160313_182754

IMG_20160313_183945

Chicken Salad – It is one of the best salads that I’ve come across. Chunks of chicken tossed with slices of onions, cucumber, tomato and few light spices which goes perfectly with all the drinks served here!

IMG_20160313_193401

Desserts are something we always look forward to and Underdoggs has innovated the most loved dessert and it’s called- Rum Gulab Jamun. Three different elements maintained at three different temperature in a dessert. Hot and freshly prepared Gulab Jamun placed in Rum and topped with a freezing scoop of Vanilla Icecream. A bite of this will leave you wanting for more.

IMG_20160313_194022

Ambience stands out – adaptive lighting, games, private sections and everything that you can ask for. The monochrome walls are filled with colorful sports personalities and their stories. Fancy lightings and doodles added up to the decor.

Wahrabia Food Festival at Barbeque Nation

If we get a chance to use Alladin’s Magic Lamp, it would be to have an Arabian food festival. On a similar idea, Barbeque Nation has come up with “Wahrabia Food Festival”, which takes all our taste buds on a magical ride to enjoy the special cuisine of Arabia. The entire decor is set with ‘Arabian Nights’ theme and special dishes to make the experience better. Limited time menu containing a wide range of recipes from Arabia and neatly decorated ambience went hand in hand.

From a long list of mocktails, we ordered Italian Smooch and Liquid Chutney which definitely helped to beat the summer heat.

Moving on to the food, Barbeque National has never failed to serve amazing dishes and the food festival made it even better. The vegetarians had a lot to choose from. Fried Pita bread and Pita Pockets with hummus & few other dips were a good start. Spiced Potato and Crispy Corn never cease to amaze us and with every visit, the taste just gets better. Lebanese Kebab and Afelia Batata are a must try.

Under non-vegetarian, they had signature dishes which included Jujeh Kebab, Rubian Meshwi, Arabian Kafta Lamb Seekh, Farareej el Fahem and Dabel Kebab. They had a special live counter which prepared Kesabi Dejaj, Chicken Shawarma roll and Dabel Kabab. Chicken Shawarma was a small roll which had chopped chicken and couple of vegetables with them. Dabel Kebab was one of my favourites, Chicken served on a stick with good masalas.

We love desserts (who doesn’t, right?) and Barbeque Nation had a lot to offer us. The highlight was the traditional sweet dishes Baklava (a sweet pastry made of layers of chopped nuts and honey) and Muhallabieh (creamy milky pudding with roses and pistachio). Along with these, they had few flavoured ice creams, couple of pastries, fresh fruits and Coconut Walnut Pie.

If you’re one of those planning to celebrate birthday or anniversary, you’re in for a treat. While you enjoy delicious food, the in-house waiters sing and perform 🙂

JP Nagar’s outlet is known for having a great ambience, and with the fest happening the entire setup is made even better. The place is filled with hanging lights, screen suspensions and illustrations of Aladdin and Ginnie themselves. The fest has opened up a window into the culture and flavours of Arabia.
