New Agarwal Bhavan

Agarwal Bhavan is one of the best restaurants in my locality. It’s been serving here from decades and no doubt it is the same from then in terms of quality, taste, cleanliness and service.

Chaitra is been visiting this place from her childhood, but it was the first try for Navneeth. It’s well known for special dosas, sweets, and condiments. Apart from this, they serve Chats, South, North Indian cuisines, and Cakes/Pastries too.

This time, we ordered her all time favourite Corn Cheese Roll Dosa and Sandwich Dosa.

Corn Cheese Roll Dosa – As the name suggests, it’s a dosa filled with American corn, grated cheese, mixed with selected spices and served as a dosa roll. It’s cut it into pieces of four and served it with chutney and tomato ketchup.

Sandwich Dosa – In simple words, it’s a set dosa with a twist. Three layers of dosa filled with slices of onion & tomato, cheese shreds and spices make it a great try. Dosa’s are crisp and hold up perfectly.

From our earlier visits, we found the following to be worth mentioning.
In sweets section – Gajar ka Halwa, Baasundi, Kashmiri Kalakhand are few of my personal favorites.
In chats section – Majority of the items like Masala Puri, Dahi Puri, Pani Puri, Pav bhaji and few other special varieties  are available. Chats are served only in the evenings.

Ambience could have been maintained better. The price list has been changed and the menu is improvised. Quantity has decreased along with time. Staff and management are humble and friendly in approach. Parking space needs to be extended. We’ll surely be back for more Corn Cheese Roll Dosa!

Mavalli Tiffin Room

We used to visit Lalbhag only because we could dine at the MTR. And those days are gone as a new MTR outlet has opened in Malleshwaram. It’s located near Sampige Theatre, as a part of the Basil Restaurant building. It took us a while to find the place and once we found, we noticed the entry to the restaurant isn’t that welcoming.

So nonetheless we ordered Rava Idli and Onion Dosa which are served with coconut chutney and veg curry

and continued  with Badam Halwa and Fruity Fusion for desserts.

Must Try – Masala Dosa and Fruity Fusion.

Downsides – The prices are bit off, they don’t go along with the quantity served.  The staff always seem to be occupied in other orders and won’t pay full attention, and some of them don’t know what are the desserts available.

Each recipe had unique taste and is served with a small cup of ghee to enjoy the hot dish. We couldn’t try their special dish, which is Sunday-only. Neither was the Mangalore Buns nor Bonda Soup available. The ambience is well maintained and the interior of the restaurant has been painted with a combination of white and bright red color. We think the best place to sit down is right behind the dessert section because there’s natural light and less crowded compared to other places. We shall surely be back for more Fruity Fusion and Badam Halwa!

Umesh Dosa Point

If amazing dosa is what you crave, then Umesh Dosa Point is where you need to be! This place beats many other dosa points which bluff about their taste. Being situated in a busy road near Nehru Circle, this pulls in a lots of crowd to make the traffic worse. Anyhow we ordered 3 specialities as suggested by the manager. So the one’s we ordered were Onion Masala Dosa, Pudi Masala Dosa and Bath Masala Dosa. They informed the Onion Masala Dosa would take some time to get prepared, and served the other two up-front.

While the Pudi Masala Dosa is a combination of various spices that are spread all over,

um (3)

the Bath Dosa is simple dosa with a rice-bath filling,

um (4)

by the time we were done with these two, Onion Masala Dosa was served which is stuffed with onions and other spices,

and to finish it off, we ordered a Rice-Bath (the one that’s used as a filling in Bath Dosa) and Masala Vade, which was a great combination.

Must Try – Onion Masala Dosa and Bath Dosa

Downside – There’s no place to sit and enjoy the dosa’s. Finding a parking spot can be a tricky job and the place is always crowded.

The hotel runs on minimal staff, all working together to serve dosa. They are friendly in approach and see that the dishes are served as soon as possible. In a time when restaurants hate to spend Ghee, these people make it a must while serving a dish, regardless whether it’s a dosa or idli. I would surely be back to taste more varieties of dosa! 🙂
