A long menu is a nightmare for any foodie, and Cookaroo has tackled this with an efficient short menu. One fine day, we were all set to taste their recipes. We started off with Alfredo White Sauce Pasta which had Rich and Creamy texture! The melting Cheese gave great flavours. The addition of Capsicum, Mushroom and Baby Corn made

We started with Alfredo White Sauce Pasta with garlic bread which had Rich and Creamy texture. The melting Cheese gave great flavours. The addition of Capsicum, Mushroom and Baby Corn made it even more delicious.

Paneer Masala with Phulka was a perfect combination. Cubes of Fresh cottage cheese with spices made it just right to eat. The curry is light and packs good flavours. Phulka is something they’ve figured out, it’s soft and fried well.

IMG_20160226_213906

Chicken Fried Rice with Chili Garlic Sauce is one of my favourites. I had tried it from a Chinese restaurant and every other place didn’t quite live up my expectation. Cookaroo was a new try for me, being worried I took my first bite and it was amazing. They have got the taste right on.

IMG_20160226_213947

Non-Veg Combo packs in huge portions. The chilli chicken was on point with the spice, a treat to the tastebuds! Chicken Gravy made the entire dish a delight, less oil, tender pieces of chicken and right flavours. Dhal makhani was light and ends the meal perfectly. Phulka was soft even after a long duration.

IMG_20160226_213841

Packaging plays a crucial role, especially in a food-delivery startup. Cookaroo uses the high-grade containers, convenient and keeps the food warm for a long time. While all dishes were packed in easy containers with a removable covering, the meal was packed with spill-proof cover to hold it together.

Meal Diaries – 20th FBAB Meetup!

Bengaluru is known for being a platform for start-ups to shine. As technology improves, even other aspects need to improve and thus opening unlimited opportunities. In the brink of food delivery problems, Meal Diaries has started it’s operations. It’s a new startup from 3 close friends who are working hard to provide Indian & Continental food while being light on the pockets. They’ve a daily changing menu and deliver in the time slots prefered by us. We were invited to try their dishes as a part of FBAB meetup and here’s our take on it.

Salads weren’t our go-to dish, but this changed our take on them. They served us three varieties of salads, Asian Green Salad with Lemon Coriander Dressing, Yasai Salad with Spicy Mayo Dressing and Vietnamese Salad with Sweet & Sour Dressing. For the first time, we liked salads. Exotic greens, fresh crunchy vegetables, soft chicken, mayo, lemon coriander and flavours made the whole eat a great joy! Asian Green & Vietnamese Salads are available with chicken too.

We were served three quick bites, out of which Pita Pockets were one of our favourites. The pockets are soft, the mixture (Corn Fritter/Chilly Chicken) was perfect and dressing makes it a great start.

mealdiaries (13)

Wheat Wrap, a definite filler. A wrap stuffed with Veg Asian/Chocker Tikka leaves you wanting for more.
Just when we thought the quick bites were done, we were served with Burgers.

mealdiaries (21)

Chicken Schezwan Burger was one of the best that we have tried to date. Soft & juicy chicken patty, layers of vegetable and cheese left me with happiness. All the quick bites were served with Chilli Sauce or Spicy Mayo, Fried potatoes or Potato Wedges.

mealdiaries (14)

Main Meals had a lot to offer without compromising on taste. It is divided into two sections, Homely Indian (Indian dishes) and Exotic Global (continental dishes). Bhindi Masala with Pakodi Kadhi Meal is a complete package both in terms of the taste and the items served, which contained Dry Bhindi Masala, Pakodi Kadhi Curry, Paratha, Ghee Rice, Raita and Green Garm Salad.

mealdiaries (10)

Gobhi Paratha with Chola Meal & Onion Cheese Chilly Paratha with Black Dal Meal where the parathas are flavoured and served with special gravies.

mealdiaries (9)

After a long list of Indian meals, we moved on to the Exotic Global. We started on a high note, Sri Lankan Fish Curry with Steamed Rice which packed a lot of flavours and fried fish chips accompanied the curry perfectly.

mealdiaries (11)

Veggie Laksa Meal was a huge burst with flavours, and visually has a great set of colours. Slices of lemon, coriander, nacho chips and curry leaves are a great extension to the dish.

mealdiaries (4)

Tian Vegetables with Saffron Rice, a simple dish with a variety of vegetables cooked with large amounts of cheese and spices which go hand in hand with rice. It is served with cucumber-capsicum salad and fries.

mealdiaries (3)

Mushroom Ravioli in Tomato Concasse, a dish which is usually found only in a decent Italian restaurant and isn’t found in takeaway menus, but Meal Diaries have worked out and are able to get it done. It is best when the dish is warm. It is served with cucumber-capsicum salad, fries and garlic bread.

mealdiaries (2)

No meal is complete without desserts, and here we finished in style with Ras Malai & Gulab Jamun. Ras Malai was perfect, the sweetness and the flavours were on point. Gulab Jamun is undoubtedly famous in Indian meals, and having them was a joy.

IMG_20160203_200412

For beverages, we had Green Apple Cooler which is made of sprite, has a hint of green apple and lime. Fresh Lime Basil Fizz was definitely a twist. Lime fizz filled with Basil leaves which makes it a good start.Orange Mint Cooler and Banana Smoothie are the two other cool beverages we had.

IMG_20160203_201955

For quick bites, we tried Bruschettas namely Tomato Aioli – Tomato Salsa mixed with herbs and served on the freshly made garlic bread, Sun Dried Tomato – Slices of sun dried Tomato topped with mozzarella cheese, Roasted Broccoli & Cheese -Perfectly roasted broccoli topped off with melting cheese. For starters we had Fish Fingers – batter fried and served with tartar sauce. Fried to perfect golden brown, crunchy yet tender makes it a special dish to try. Crispy Fish with tropical salsa was similar to fish fingers. Chicken Tenders with Sweet Chilli Sauce and Crispy Chicken with BBQ Sauce were the highlights in the starters. They packed great flavours and kept the texture soft and tender. All the sauces are prepared in-house and they compliment the dish. For the main course, we had lamb lasagne and pizzas which included – Wasabi Mayo Chicken, Chicken Pineapple with Jalapeño, Prawn pesto, Bullseye egg pizza, 3 cheese with mushrooms, cheese stuffed crust Margherita, sweet corn-pineapple & cheese pizza.

Lamb Lasagne looks catchy. The lamb sausage is rolled into crust and placed in three layers with a lot of cheese in it.They serve it with salad, garlic bread and garnish with herbs.

IMG_20160203_204401

Veg pizzas – the soft crust, fresh ingredients, pineapple bits, colourful paprika, special toppings with a touch of cheese and ketchup was a feast to our taste buds.

IMG_20160203_205450

Non-veg pizzas – Tender chicken chunks, mushroom marinated in mayo, bits of wasabi and few other ingredients makes the tasty pizzas here. Prawn Pesto was simplest of all, thin crust pizza topped with prawns but Italian pesto sauce was overpowering. Chicken Pineapple was one of the best among all, pieces of tender chicken and pineapple blend well. We loved it!

IMG_20160203_205600

We tried scrumptious desserts namely, Tiramisu, Caramel Walnut Tart, Chilly Chocolate Tart, Lemon Mousse, Honey Walnut Parfait, Cappuccino mousse, chocolate mousse and few others. Tarts and mousse were really finger licking good. Don’t forget to try them.

IMG_20160203_211712

Three cheers for the entire team working here. Staff are friendly and humble in approach.

The concept of rooftop itself is just amazing. Semi-open space filled with lush green hanging pots, tiny pink flowers, wooden furniture and bright lights, with the flow of cool breeze makes it a perfect place to enjoy your platter 🙂

Zzungry

Zzungry is a new ‘delivery only’ startup with a great concept of catering Royal Indian Cuisine. The food which was only served at five-star hotels & palaces is now being delivered to your doorstep at an affordable price. They’ve a main kitchen at HSR layout and a processing outlet in Indiranagar. They’ve experimented with royal dishes from all over the country and is brought under a single menu. The menu changes every week and all prices are inclusive of taxes, so what you see is what you pay!

Tandoori Malai Broccoli – A great dish to start off a royal meal! It is cooked in creamy malai mixed with few spices, and light fried in tandoori. The floret of broccoli is crunchy, packs spices and malai adds a cheesy texture to it.

zun (23)

Malai Paneer – Fresh paneer cooked with malai, cheese and ground cardamom. To make it tastier, it is topped with partial cheese dipped onion. The softness of paneer is carried by the creaminess of malai and cheese. A must try if you are a paneer lover!

zun (22)

Makhmali Murg Seekh – Finely chopped chicken mixed with herbs and spices, put on skewers and cooked in tandoor. After it’s cooked, the central space is filled with cheese which just melts once you eat it.

Murg Sholay Kebab – A boneless chicken leg piece marinated in special cream, cooked in tandoor with Indian spices for perfect taste. Chicken is tender, filled with flavours and spicy to eat. The dish is topped with finely chopped coriander that enlightens the aroma.

Lamb Kebab Gorkhar – This dish is similar to Makhmali Murg Seekh, except for it’s made up of lamb and doesn’t have a cheese filling. The dish is said to be originated from Gorkha, a tribe of Nepal. Mince lamb, combined with spices and herbs, cooked in tandoor. The dish goes great with green chutney.

Nachini(Ragi) Bhutta Paratha – You got to try this even if you don’t like ragi. Ragi paratha stuffed with a mixture of potato & corn and cooked to perfect softness. A dish which can be consumed without any gravies but tastes great with all gravies they serve.

zun (1)

Flavoured Phulka – The ideal accompaniment to any main course is phulka and try it with all gravies for a royal experience. Phulka is of two varieties, combined with the tangy kick of tomato and spinach.

Ajwaini Hing Paratha – The paratha made up of whole wheat flour and a hint of Hing. It is soft & layered and goes well with all gravies they serve.

Dum Murg Nizami – Names just keep getting crazier. This is certainly one of my favs! Chicken leg cooked in spices, onions and cashew. The gravy has a lot of Hyderabadi flavours. It goes great with phulkas.

Murg Burrani – A garlic flavoured chicken leg piece marinated with spices and cooked in tandoor.

Mutton Kolhapuri – Kolhapuri mutton is one of the few mutton dishes that I like. The meat is perfectly cooked with onions, garlic gravy, a few poppy seeds and coconut. This curry fills you up easily and goes well with all bread. It accompanies Shimla Pulao even better!

Veg Sabnam Curry – Cubes of cottage cheese, baby corn, mushrooms and corn cooked in tomato onion gravy which gives it a soft and crunchy texture.

zun (15)

Kofta E Gulmarg – Stuffed cottage cheese balls mixed with Kashmiri apple and dry fruits dipped in flavorful gravy, which was a delicacy during royals of Kashmir. It gives you a hint of both sweetness and spice.

zun (26)

Veg Shimla Pulao – Mild flavoured basmati rice cooked with bell peppers and garam masala. It tastes good with Mutton Kolhapuri/Veg Sabnam Curry.

zun (16)

Chenna Makhana Sangam – The chef’s signature dessert from the Zzungry kitchen. A royal dessert made of Chenna soaked in makhana and puffed lotus seeds which gives a unique flavour.

zun (24)

Gulab Jamoon Panjgiri – Homemade Gulab Jamoon served in phirnee which is saffron flavoured. A Moghlai dessert unique textures.

Hello Curry – 12th FBAB Meetup!

Hello Curry operates on Delivery-Only space and caters to the demand for quick, affordable and daily food. They started their journey in 2013 at Hyderabad. Bengaluru and Pune have been its recent additions, making a total count of 32 stores in 3 cities.

As invitees for the 12th FBAB meetup, we were at Cartier Hotel for food tasting and package reviewing.

Dishes that were served:
Double ka Meetha – A great welcome sweet, which renders your taste buds. Quick bread based sweet which couldn’t be identified, until we were informed about the recipe. Fried chunks of bread soaked in rich badam milk.

hc (7)

Veg Biryani – Steamed rice accompanied with mild flavors of spices with fewer vegetables and served with raita. Not great, but a good dish for a veggie. Biryani can be improved in terms of vegetables and spices.

hc (6)

Boneless Chicken Biryani – This is more of a Bengaluru Biryani rather than an authentic biryani, it’s the result of having to serve different foodies. So, don’t expect this to be spicy. The way they’ve integrated the flavors has come out well. Chicken is perfectly cooked and the its served with raita.

hc (8)

Mighty Chicken Masala – Ghar ka Chicken, as they say it, but due to the market trends, the name was changed to Mighty Chicken Masala. Soft cooked chicken in a home styled recipe.

hc (16)

Paneer Capsicum Paratha – How to make a veggie happy? You serve them Paneer Capsicum Paratha! It’s a combination of paneer and finely chopped capsicum, mixed together and stuffed to make a paratha.

hc (4)

Butter Chicken – Another dish that has a change of recipe to match the localites’ requirement. As usual, tender chicken cooked with masalas and fewer spices.

hc (2)

Dhal Makhani – Dhal Makhani has been known for leaving one filled and making them feel heavy. But this had a different story. They’ve come up with a brilliant idea of replacing traditional beans with Green Gram, and it has paid off. A great curry that goes well with rice and paratha.

hc (1)

Paneer Butter Masala – One of their best curries. Double like for the taste, even better with additional butter 😛

hc (15)

Panchmel Sabzi – As the name says, a light curry made up of five ingredients served with steamed rice. It can also be tried with paratha. Nothing great about the taste.

Chocó Shots – This was a trial dish which isn’t available on the menu. Amazing dessert prepared by a home chef made up of layers of chocolate cream, bits of butterscotch and topped off with choco chips & peanuts.

hc (14)

Packaging of the Dishes:
For ‘delivery-only’ start-up, it’s just not about the taste of the food but also about the packaging and presenting of it. This is where Hello Curry has stood out in terms of innovation and creativity.
Comic strips and funny quotes are the highlights of the biriyani containers and curry pots.
The paratha packaging resembles a mailbox and the inner part is well segmented for all the side dishes that is served along.

hc (5)

Delivery note:
Hello Curry caters to the localities within the radius of 5 km from its kitchen.
