Freakshakes and Sheesha at Cafe Azzure

Cafe Azzure is a new rooftop sheesha place located in MG Road. It has a quiet indoor seating and outdoor seating (which tends to become noisy at peak hours). I was here with few of my friends after hearing about their unique hookah flavors and interesting freak-shakes!

The first drink that caught our attention was Blue Heaven, probably one of the best mocktails served here – bright color with refreshing flavor is all I needed after a sunny ride! Apart from this, Mango Margarita and Green Apple Mojito were on the list which took a back seat when compared to Blue Heaven.
freakshakes

Nachos is my default order at all places, so ordered Schezwan Chicken Nachos. Crispy bites, creamy, cheesy, spicy chicken chunks and tangy salsa – easy peasy! Sesame Chicken Strips was well seasoned but had become little soggy by the time we ate them. Cheesy Jalapeno Balls could’ve been made of creamy cheese to get the stringy feel.
freakshakes

Milkshakes, more like freak-shakes are now being a common trend among cafes! Taste, richness, and presentation is the key for a successful shake and Cafe Azzure has nearly-perfected with three of their shakes – Chocolate Freakshake, Nutella Shake & Ferrero Rocher Shake! Chocolate Freakshake is a combo of chocolate milkshake and Kitkat, well balanced throughout making it a must try! Nutella Shake and Ferrero Rocher Shake were blissful and filling much, only if I could’ve more of them!
freakshakes

Cafe Azzure’s Special 7 Wonders kept us going for most of the evening with its unique mixture of flavors! I’d suggest this, if you would like to try something new, else prefer the normal ones. Sulemani Tea is an odd addition, but it’s that worked way better with sheesha compared to other mocktails.
freakshakes

Thinking of Creamy White sauce pasta still makes me droooool, calories overloaded but it didn’t stop me from going for a second round! Twisted Chicken Pizza is from Instagram to Instagram and for Instagram – I’d been wanting to make this myself but never got the chance and ordered it right away without second thoughts. While the filling was on point, the base could’ve been softer. When asked for their specialty/most selling dish, we were directed towards Cheese Crumb Chicken and it was evident as to why. Chicken wrapped in crumbs, baked, sliced and topped with generous amount of cheese just took us to another level of cheesiness!
freakshakes

Things got cheesier with Mascarpone Brownie! Light, chocolatey and brownie :D! With this, I called it a day while my friends went on for another dessert.

Being at the heart of the city means, keeping up with the competition is important. While most of the items that we tried turned out to be good, there are a few things (like consistency in-between same orders, flavors of few mocktails, and type of ingredients in some of the dishes) they need to work on. Service can be improved in terms of quickness and approach to the customers. If they figure these things out, the place will pick up in the coming days! I’d definitely be back for freakshakes and pasta 🙂

Burrp – Cuisine Crawl, Masterclass & more at Airport!

The sight of people waiting for their loved ones to arrive, a bunch of people with their cabin bags and luggage, people waiting for their turn to board the flights, cops, security guards,  air hostess, and others… The cool breeze, lush greenery, souvenir shops, a chain of eating houses, taxis and more…  How astounding it is to be at the airport!

Everybody loves food walk, but what makes it more interesting is “An Airport Foodwalk!” Along with fellow food bloggers, we were all set to enter the Airport. In no time we set our foot into the airport as all the security measures were taken care. This was the first time we went out on a food walk organized by team Burrp and we have to say that we were lifted off the air with their job. There are multiple restaurants open on Domestic and International Terminals, out of which three restaurants were on our list.

airport

Tiffin Centre was our first stop, a restaurant well known for it’s South Indian delicacies. It’s on the upper level of Domestic Terminal. It is popular for its ambiance and authenticity in terms of  preparation of recipes and taste. The ingredients used are imported from the place of origin and every dish has it’s own story to tell. ‘Wall of Chillies’, Chettinad columns, wooden interiors are few of the highlighting features of this place.
airport

On the menu we had, Piping hot Rasam and Nannari Sherbet for appetizers continued with Mirchi Bhajji and Masala Vada. On the other side of the non-vegetarian platter, we had Rava Fish Fry and Chicken Lollipop. Also, we got to see the complete meal platter.
airport

A few steps ahead and you find yourself at La Alta Vita, an Italian restaurant. The bright interiors, green wall, and hanging lamps are few elements that caught our attention.
airport

Olive, Tomato, and Cheese Bruschetta is not to miss if you’re at an Italian restaurant, especially here. Chicken Arancini, fried rice ball stuffed with chicken is something that we liked! Zucchini Fritters, Zucchini fried to perfect crisp and went along with the dip.
airport

The last stop for the day was at La Tapenade, a Mediterranean Cafe which overlooks the International Terminal. They are known for sandwiches, fresh baked bread, cheesecakes, fresh fruit juices and wide varieties of pizzas.
airport

The most exciting part of the walk was masterclass held by executive Chef Murali who taught us how to prepare Penne in Pomodoro sauce, Moroccan Couscous & Chicken Tagine. Also, Chef threw light on different parts of Mediterranean region, their food styles and especially about Moroccan dishes. Though there were restrictions in using fire, knives, and other cutlery, Chef pulled off a great show.

Our lunch had a widespread of items including from the new menu. Harira Soup, Greek Salad, a couple of Pizzas, Moroccan Couscous and Chicken Tagine, Penne in Pomodoro sauce from the masterclass session. No meal is complete without desserts. We tried Chef’s way of Banoffee Pie, Raspberry Cheese Cake, and Tiramisu. Banoffee pie is a must try for caramel lovers!

The three restaurants – Tiffin Centre, La Alta Vita, and Le Tapenade are managed by HMS Host who specialize in Airport restaurants all over the world. With the team’s way of managing things, it was hard to believe that this was Burrp’s  first venture in organizing food walks. Three cheers to the entire team for making it a great journey.

Three Dots & A Dash

We are in seventh heaven to blog about this alluring rooftop restaurant named THREE DOTS AND A DASH located on the 100 ft road, Indiranagar. Three Dots & A Dash is one of a kind restaurant & themed bar to offer Tiki Cocktails which is burst of flavors and dishes which makes everyone drool. Wondering what does three dots and dash spell? Well, it stands for VICTORY 🙂

We were here to try some of the best ‘tiki cocktails’ and other dishes served in town. This restaurant is split into two level seating. We chose to sit on the rooftop and just fell in love with the ambiance.

Tiki cocktails started with Dead Reckoning, Pineapple Paradise, and Forbidden Island. Dead Reckoning is served in a skull glass consisting of wine, white rum, spice syrup and hints of maple and vanilla.
tiki cocktails

Pineapple Paradise is another tiki cocktail served in pineapple fruit made up of White Rum, Caribbean Rum of Coconut flavor and pineapple juice. The smoky dry ice adds up to the presentation.

As you sip down Forbidden fruit you get flavours of vodka, white rum, gin and  a couple more spirits. Orchid adds up to the beauty of the drink. A must-try cocktail.  All tiki cocktails are as innovative as they sound with some Indian touch to it. The presentation of the drinks is top notch and is a feast for eyes.

Up next was starters – starting with Polynesian baked Poisson, marinated fish wrapped in banana leaf giving it a unique taste. The fish was cooked perfectly with right spices. It was juicy and just melts in the mouth.
3dd (4)

The Classic In-house nachos were crispy, topped with kidney beans, tomato salsa, melting cheese and cream went hand-in-hand with it.
3dd (13)

Herb Cheese Stuffed Mushroom took the stuffing to a whole new level, mushrooms were fried perfectly. The crunchy base and cheese made it even better!
3dd (5)

Pan-Seared Pepper Coconut Chicken reminded me of days we spent in Kerala. One of the best combination of coconut, chicken, and pepper I’ve come across.
3dd (14)

The main course consisted of  Spinach Stuffed Cottage Cheese Steak which was served with mashed potato, saffron glazed pineapple & carrots.
3dd (3)

Fried Rice in Pineapple filled with colorful veggies, corn and pineapple with two types of sauces was one of the most innovative dishes that we had here.
3dd (6)

Wrapped the lunch with Chocolate brownie topped with cherries, slices of apple, banana,  and whipped cream. Lip smacking dessert it was *-*
3dd (9)

Service is extremely good and two thumbs up for the happy helpers who served us here. Well maintained place and bamboo interiors add up to the ambiance. Cheers to the entire team behind Three Dots and A Dash 🙂 Will surely be back for more.

For beverages, we had Green Apple Cooler which is made of sprite, has a hint of green apple and lime. Fresh Lime Basil Fizz was definitely a twist. Lime fizz filled with Basil leaves which makes it a good start.Orange Mint Cooler and Banana Smoothie are the two other cool beverages we had.

IMG_20160203_201955

For quick bites, we tried Bruschettas namely Tomato Aioli – Tomato Salsa mixed with herbs and served on the freshly made garlic bread, Sun Dried Tomato – Slices of sun dried Tomato topped with mozzarella cheese, Roasted Broccoli & Cheese -Perfectly roasted broccoli topped off with melting cheese. Finger chips and potato wedges with mayonnaise & herbs packed the quick bites.

For starters we had Fish Fingers – batter fried and served with tartar sauce. Fried to perfect golden brown, crunchy yet tender makes it a special dish to try. Crispy Fish with tropical salsa was similar to fish fingers. Chicken Tenders with Sweet Chilli Sauce and Crispy Chicken with BBQ Sauce were the highlights in the starters. They packed great flavours and kept the texture soft and tender. All the sauces are prepared in-house and they compliment the dish. For the main course, we had lamb lasagne and pizzas which included – Wasabi Mayo Chicken, Chicken Pineapple with Jalapeño, Prawn pesto, Bullseye egg pizza, 3 cheese with mushrooms, cheese stuffed crust Margherita, sweet corn-pineapple & cheese pizza.

Lamb Lasagne looks catchy. The lamb sausage is rolled into crust and placed in three layers with a lot of cheese in it.They serve it with salad, garlic bread and garnish with herbs.

IMG_20160203_204401

Veg pizzas – the soft crust, fresh ingredients, pineapple bits, colourful paprika, special toppings with a touch of cheese and ketchup was a feast to our taste buds.

IMG_20160203_205450

Non-veg pizzas – Tender chicken chunks, mushroom marinated in mayo, bits of wasabi and few other ingredients makes the tasty pizzas here. Prawn Pesto was simplest of all, thin crust pizza topped with prawns but Italian pesto sauce was overpowering. Chicken Pineapple was one of the best among all, pieces of tender chicken and pineapple blend well. We loved it!

IMG_20160203_205600

We tried scrumptious desserts namely, Tiramisu, Caramel Walnut Tart, Chilly Chocolate Tart, Lemon Mousse, Honey Walnut Parfait, Cappuccino mousse, chocolate mousse and few others. Tarts and mousse were really finger licking good. Don’t forget to try them.

Three cheers for the entire team working here. Staff are friendly and humble in approach.

The concept of rooftop itself is just amazing. Semi-open space filled with lush green hanging pots, tiny pink flowers, wooden furniture and bright lights, with the flow of cool breeze makes it a perfect place to enjoy your platter 🙂

Five Star Chicken – 19th FBAB Meetup!

Five Star Chicken is one of those food chains that started as a small outlet and have spread to many countries. We got to their new outlet as a part of 19th FBAB Meetup.

Five Star Chicken name usually gives out a vibe that it’s a chicken-only place, but only when you visit you’ll know they have a lot to offer in veg too! To overcome this misconception, they have named their new outlet as Five Star Cafe.

The first outlet was in Thailand which opened up during the mid-1985. Since then, they’ve served great quality chicken in more than 7000 stores worldwide! They’ve expanded to 9 countries and their key to success is providing great taste at an affordable price while maintaining quality. The company has its own state of the art infrastructure for storage – distribution – exercise complete control over the quality and thus, they are able to optimize the cost and pass on better value to the customer.

fsc (1)

Moving onto the food, they have a long list of quick eats. We started with Thai Crispy Chicken and Crunchy Masala in huge buckets! Thai Crispy, a couple of tender chicken pieces marinated in Thai Mixture of masalas. Crunchy Chicken is all different from Thai Crispy starting from the color to taste, the coating is crispy and goes well with chicken.

fsc (3)

Chicken Popcorn is one of my favorite. Small chunks of chicken, dipped in flour mixture and fried in oil. Good eat that goes well with most of the drinks!

fsc (21)

Veg Cheese Corn Nuggets – Nuggets itself is a good start, but Five Star Chicken has gone ahead to fill it with Cheese and Corn making it a soft melting treat to the taste buds!

fsc (15)

Peri-Peri Fries sounds similar as the McD’s but entirely different. The spices pack great flavors which leave you wanting more.

fsc (18)

Hungry Bird Burger – Boneless Chicken patty placed between secret sauce and lettuce. Have one of these and you’ll almost be filled.

fsc (10)

Veg Roll – Dices of veg crunchies & vegetables filled inside a flat bread with tangy sauce.

fsc (16)

Parathas, well what can I say? These were one of the best aloo parathas that we’ve ever tasted. The aloo filling is consistent throughout & is served with mixed vegetable pickle but goes well just like that.

fsc (9)

Veg Biryani – The moment when you taste biryani, you’ll realize it has an amazing combination of spices and vegetables. The corn and green peas are a great combo. A must try 🙂

fsc (22)

Chicken Biryani, a simple dish cooked with basmati rice, light masalas and few pieces of chicken. A great main course dish.

fsc (20)

The place is well maintained. Interior and exterior seating arrangements are made. The service is pretty quick and staff are on their toes when a customer enters.
Recommended 🙂

cafe desserts

Calvin’s

The place that we checked in for brunch was Calvin’s, situated in Koramangala. It’s a place consisting of a wide range of desserts such as birthday cakes, jam tarts, gingerbread cookies, plum cakes for Christmas. The atmosphere of this place is well suited for college students who’ve worked up quite an appetite. Considering there are a lot of options on burgers, breakfast specialties (waffles, omelettes) and sandwiches, we ordered Tex-Mex Veg and Mexican Chicken for burgers, Banana Walnut Pie and Jam Tart for desserts.

Tex-Mex Veg Burger – burger consisted of veg patty and cheese with sliced tomatoes, onions and lettuce. On a whole it was quite good and filling.

cal (5)

Mexcian Chicken Burger – burger consisted of chicken patty dipped in cheese and topped with chilli flakes, sliced tomatoes, onions and lettuce.

cal (4)

The burgers were accompanied by potato wedges and a salad. The best part was, the wedges as they were crispy. The salad was made up of chopped veggies and lettuce which is served as just one whole mouthful.

cal (8)

Banana Walnut pie was nice to start off with, the sweetness was perfect. You can feel the banana with every bite you take.

cal (9)

The tart, on the other hand, looked good but was opposite in terms of taste. The jam filling was a bit dried up, I expected it to be much better.

cal (10)

For a price range of oddly 150/- a burger and 70/- for a dessert were worth it. Service could have been a little quicker with burgers, but all together for a small amount of money and a college group it’s a good hangout spot while being clean at the same time.
