Belgi-yumm Waffles at Waffle Walle

Waffle is one thing we never got to try, not until we visited WAFFLE WALLE. Expectations are set to high when you know the person running the show has travelled places to perfect the art of preparing waffles. We had varieties of waffles to try and our expectations were held high from the moment we had the first bite of classic waffle till the last sip of the Belgian hot chocolate drink.

Before starting, we got a chance to know few things about types of Waffles and the way they are prepared around the world from Chetan. The widely known types of waffles are Brussels and Liege. Brussels is soft based waffle made from batter, easier to eat and holds lots of toppings while Liege is little denser made of dough, caramelised sugar and is a bit on the chewy side.

Simple start with Classic Waffles, Brussels topped with ice-cream and whipped cream. The moment we bit, whole world slowed down for a moment! Perfectly baked and the sweet factor is just right to munch more of it.

Up next, we tried Indulgence and Yummy Tummy, which are Liege based. Indulgence liege is placed with one huge scoop vanilla ice-cream, pockets filled with strawberries and topped with chocolate sauce & sprinkled sugar.

Yummy Tummy fills you up because of the toppings – slices of fresh banana, whipped cream and Nutella (who doesn’t love Nutella, right?) Just took us to a whole new level *-*

Just when we thought could it be any better? Blueberry Exotic was served.  Fresh Blueberries, blueberry preserve, vanilla ice-cream topped with maple syrup surely got our taste buds excited.

This was entirely customised for our love towards caramel. It feels great when a simple dish can give so much happiness. Whipped cream and caramel, what could go wrong?

After a long list of amazing waffles, we tried their special Brownie Delight and Belgian Hot Chocolate. Eggless Brownie served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and drizzled with powdered sugar, hot chocolate sauce which glides down making a way for the ice-cream to stand out.

Belgian Hot Chocolate had a twist – It was a little spicy, which left a slight impact as it flew down the throat when sipped. The way of dipping dark chocolate into the drink and waiting for it melt was a feast to our eyes.

The chocolate sauce is prepared in-house, hence, intensely flavoured. Each ingredient blends with other amazingly without overpowering. One of the keynotes, all the waffles are same at the base, it’s up to us to come up with a combination and try a new waffle! We just loved it. Waffle Walle has set the level so high. Can’t guess if we will find another store which can serve such lip-smacking waffles 🙂

Will surely be back for more as soon as possible! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you’re in and around Bannerghatta. If you’re far from Bannerghatta, then, dress-up and get waffled soon 😀 Three cheers to Chetan and the happy helpers there 🙂

Indian Paratha Company

Indian Paratha Company is an upscale cafe which sits on the NH4, near to Bengaluru International Airport with one of the best views to offer. The main concept is to be a pitstop for riders and travellers which provides fresh, fast vegetarian food.

We were here as a part of FBAB meetup and IPC had decided what they wanted to serve us. They had a list of items which were popular and we started with a lassi – Patiala Lassi is what we needed after a long drive on a hot sunny day. It was more than just a welcome drink. The curd is blended perfectly, the sweetness is on point and was topped off with Kesar for additional flavours.

Pakoda Platter is the best way to spend an evening while sunset was a bonus view! The platter contained Onion Pakoda and Paneer Pakoda, were crisp and the spices were perfect.

Achari Masti Paratha was one of our favourites. The filling was just amazing, spices were a treat to taste buds. It was served with curd, pickle, chilli chutney and few slices of onion and capsicum which went hand-in-hand. Spicy food lovers gotta try this.

Parathzza, a unique combination of Paratha and Pizza,  we got to try Paneer Tikka Parathzzaa. The base was perfectly cooked while the stuffing was made up of paneer and topped with cheese. Spices could’ve been improved and addition of sauce or pickle would’ve been better.

Kulfi is our all time favourite dessert. Nothing can match the fun in eating it. The plating of Kulfi was just so simple and appealing. We were served with a great Kulfi indeed.

Irish Coffee was a layered drink with Caramel at the bottom, Cream in the middle and Coffee on top with ice cubes. Three layers with three different flavours was surely a tickle to taste buds.

A very well maintained place with friendly staff to take care of the customers. Small world which offers great food. Three Cheers to IPC team 🙂

Malgudi Vattika

On a bright sunny day, we pulled our seatbelts tight and set on a long drive towards Bidadi and little did we knew about Malgudi Vattika. Dropped off the car and looked out to see amazing restaurant amidst nature. Tall coconut trees, tiny shrubs, bright green grass, stone boards, antique furniture, good food, happy helpers made our long drive worthy 🙂

We were welcomed with cool lime soda and buttermilk which is just needed on a sunny day. A perfect cool welcome we would say 🙂 Lime Soda had right proportions of nimbu, sugar & salt and Buttermilk was perfectly blended with spices and coriander.

Halli Katte is a hidden treasure, spread behind the parking lot under the shades of lush greens which is used to host private events or group gatherings. A lot of board games like Snake-and-Ladder, Tic-Tac-Toe, Pagade (traditional game) and Alla-Gulli-Mane are available here, that just reminded us about our lively childhood 🙂

It’s a tradition in South India to start a meal with sweet to ensure a happy meal which is followed at Malgudi Vattika. We started with Kayi Holige and Menasinakai Bajji. Holige is a type of Indian sweet bread stuffed with coconut & jaggery (hoorna) which was fried perfectly and served with ghee. Bajji was served hot which left us for wanting more.

Paneer Tikka was next on the line, a vibrant dish both in terms of flavours and colors. Cottage Cheese marinated in spice mixture and cooked to perfection.

The most awaited South Indian meal was next on the line. The portions were huge and the copper plates made them heavy. This is a complete meal containing Curries, Salad, Chutney and Jolada Roti/Puri. There’s rice meal available too. There are very few places that prepare amazing Jolada Roti and Malgudi Vattika undoubtedly is one among them. Rice-rasam combo gave the perfect end to the long meal.

The meals were followed by Veg Handi Biriyani and Veg Pulao. Two rice dishes rich in flavours, looked alike (with one of them having paneer) while tasting unique. We’d say the presence of sweetness reminded us of days at Kerala.

Makkai ki Roti and Sarson da Saag, a dish as fancy as the name. The roti was loaded with butter & corn flavours. Sarson da Saag was a delight to taste buds. This being our first try with the dish, we weren’t let down.

After good starters and heavy meal, we ordered a couple of fresh fruit juices. Watermelon, Chikoo Milkshake and Pineapple are few to mention.

The ambience is bright with lush greens, high trees and cool breeze. If you’re one of those who’d travel to have good food, then you’re in for a treat at Malgudi Vattika. The entire setup gives you a nostalgic feel and starts right from the small light posts to the large dining tables. A class apart from the ones found in the city. One of the classiest that we have come across. The lawn has some of the highlights like antique furniture, a cycle, rustic trunk and a life-size bullock cart.

Not to forget, hospitality and the service were really good. Three cheers to the entire team of Malgudi Vattika 🙂

Wahrabia Food Festival at Barbeque Nation

If we get a chance to use Alladin’s Magic Lamp, it would be to have an Arabian food festival. On a similar idea, Barbeque Nation has come up with “Wahrabia Food Festival”, which takes all our taste buds on a magical ride to enjoy the special cuisine of Arabia. The entire decor is set with ‘Arabian Nights’ theme and special dishes to make the experience better. Limited time menu containing a wide range of recipes from Arabia and neatly decorated ambience went hand in hand.

From a long list of mocktails, we ordered Italian Smooch and Liquid Chutney which definitely helped to beat the summer heat.

Moving on to the food, Barbeque National has never failed to serve amazing dishes and the food festival made it even better. The vegetarians had a lot to choose from. Fried Pita bread and Pita Pockets with hummus & few other dips were a good start. Spiced Potato and Crispy Corn never cease to amaze us and with every visit, the taste just gets better. Lebanese Kebab and Afelia Batata are a must try.

Under non-vegetarian, they had signature dishes which included Jujeh Kebab, Rubian Meshwi, Arabian Kafta Lamb Seekh, Farareej el Fahem and Dabel Kebab. They had a special live counter which prepared Kesabi Dejaj, Chicken Shawarma roll and Dabel Kabab. Chicken Shawarma was a small roll which had chopped chicken and couple of vegetables with them. Dabel Kebab was one of my favourites, Chicken served on a stick with good masalas.

We love desserts (who doesn’t, right?) and Barbeque Nation had a lot to offer us. The highlight was the traditional sweet dishes Baklava (a sweet pastry made of layers of chopped nuts and honey) and Muhallabieh (creamy milky pudding with roses and pistachio). Along with these, they had few flavoured ice creams, couple of pastries, fresh fruits and Coconut Walnut Pie.

If you’re one of those planning to celebrate birthday or anniversary, you’re in for a treat. While you enjoy delicious food, the in-house waiters sing and perform 🙂

JP Nagar’s outlet is known for having a great ambience, and with the fest happening the entire setup is made even better. The place is filled with hanging lights, screen suspensions and illustrations of Aladdin and Ginnie themselves. The fest has opened up a window into the culture and flavours of Arabia.

continental delivery-only north-indian south-indian

Cookaroo is an innovative food-delivery startup which operates on partner-kitchens model. They use the kitchen space of partnered hotels to prepare food. The daily changing menu repeats after a couple of weeks. The menu contains Indian, Chinese, Thai and Continental (at selected locations) dishes.

A long menu is a nightmare for any foodie, and Cookaroo has tackled this with an efficient short menu. One fine day, we were all set to taste their recipes. We started off with Alfredo White Sauce Pasta which had Rich and Creamy texture! The melting Cheese gave great flavours. The addition of Capsicum, Mushroom and Baby Corn made

We started with Alfredo White Sauce Pasta with garlic bread which had Rich and Creamy texture. The melting Cheese gave great flavours. The addition of Capsicum, Mushroom and Baby Corn made it even more delicious.

Paneer Masala with Phulka was a perfect combination. Cubes of Fresh cottage cheese with spices made it just right to eat. The curry is light and packs good flavours. Phulka is something they’ve figured out, it’s soft and fried well.

Chicken Fried Rice with Chili Garlic Sauce is one of my favourites. I had tried it from a Chinese restaurant and every other place didn’t quite live up my expectation. Cookaroo was a new try for me, being worried I took my first bite and it was amazing. They have got the taste right on.

Non-Veg Combo packs in huge portions. The chilli chicken was on point with the spice, a treat to the tastebuds! Chicken Gravy made the entire dish a delight, less oil, tender pieces of chicken and right flavours. Dhal makhani was light and ends the meal perfectly. Phulka was soft even after a long duration.

Packaging plays a crucial role, especially in a food-delivery startup. Cookaroo uses the high-grade containers, convenient and keeps the food warm for a long time. While all dishes were packed in easy containers with a removable covering, the meal was packed with spill-proof cover to hold it together.
