Mavalli Tiffin Room

We used to visit Lalbhag only because we could dine at the MTR. And those days are gone as a new MTR outlet has opened in Malleshwaram. It’s located near Sampige Theatre, as a part of the Basil Restaurant building. It took us a while to find the place and once we found, we noticed the entry to the restaurant isn’t that welcoming.

So nonetheless we ordered Rava Idli and Onion Dosa which are served with coconut chutney and veg curry

and continued  with Badam Halwa and Fruity Fusion for desserts.

Must Try – Masala Dosa and Fruity Fusion.

Downsides – The prices are bit off, they don’t go along with the quantity served.  The staff always seem to be occupied in other orders and won’t pay full attention, and some of them don’t know what are the desserts available.

Each recipe had unique taste and is served with a small cup of ghee to enjoy the hot dish. We couldn’t try their special dish, which is Sunday-only. Neither was the Mangalore Buns nor Bonda Soup available. The ambience is well maintained and the interior of the restaurant has been painted with a combination of white and bright red color. We think the best place to sit down is right behind the dessert section because there’s natural light and less crowded compared to other places. We shall surely be back for more Fruity Fusion and Badam Halwa!

Umesh Dosa Point

If amazing dosa is what you crave, then Umesh Dosa Point is where you need to be! This place beats many other dosa points which bluff about their taste. Being situated in a busy road near Nehru Circle, this pulls in a lots of crowd to make the traffic worse. Anyhow we ordered 3 specialities as suggested by the manager. So the one’s we ordered were Onion Masala Dosa, Pudi Masala Dosa and Bath Masala Dosa. They informed the Onion Masala Dosa would take some time to get prepared, and served the other two up-front.

While the Pudi Masala Dosa is a combination of various spices that are spread all over,

um (3)

the Bath Dosa is simple dosa with a rice-bath filling,

um (4)

by the time we were done with these two, Onion Masala Dosa was served which is stuffed with onions and other spices,

and to finish it off, we ordered a Rice-Bath (the one that’s used as a filling in Bath Dosa) and Masala Vade, which was a great combination.

Must Try – Onion Masala Dosa and Bath Dosa

Downside – There’s no place to sit and enjoy the dosa’s. Finding a parking spot can be a tricky job and the place is always crowded.

The hotel runs on minimal staff, all working together to serve dosa. They are friendly in approach and see that the dishes are served as soon as possible. In a time when restaurants hate to spend Ghee, these people make it a must while serving a dish, regardless whether it’s a dosa or idli. I would surely be back to taste more varieties of dosa! 🙂

Koshy’s – The one restaurant that we had in our bucket list from the beginning of the food journey, so on one random afternoon we decided to check-in. As we entered, we saw the placed filled with business people having a meet or team members having lunch, but no teenagers. Having this thought on the mind, we sat down and noticed we had come into the lunch-only side of the restaurant instead of the usual breakfast-lunch side.

But none the less, we ordered Sweet Lime Soda for the appetizer

and continued with Butter Naan, Panner Butter Masala

khos (7)

and Egg Biryani for the main course.

They served all the dishes at once and as AC was switched on, the food cooled down making it a bit difficult to consume. The ambiance is one of the best, which gives an impression of an old house. They serve the food on a warm ceramic plate which is very rare in the present days.

I’ve no recommendation for this place yet! The food tastes similar to that served in other restaurants, not unique about it.

Downsides – Finding a parking space is tedious work, given that the restaurant is right next to Hard Rock Cafe. This place gets filled up easily, especially on Sunday’s for morning breakfast. The food is bit overpriced compared to the taste and the quantity served, and not to forget the amount of TAX they charge on the bill. If you’re going for the first time, check the AC and Non-AC part of the restaurant before occupying the table.

The staff are dressed in white uniform, who greets us upon entering and taking the seat. They are friendly in approach and usually take care of serving the food instead of just leaving it on the table. I would surely be back for amazing breakfast collection (from what I’ve heard, they are one of the best).

Dyu Art Cafe

Dyu Art Cafe is one of the hidden gem of Koramangala. If you love pie’s and haven’t tried any before, then this is one of the places you need to try! After spending a lot of time on checking out the menu, we ordered the following

We started off with Chilli Cheese Toast which is simple yet filling. Soft brown bread loaded with cheese and chili flakes.
dyu (10)

For drinks we had ordered Cold Chocolate and Hot Cafe Mocha
dyu (11)

We continued with Egg Salad Sandwich which was perfectly cut into half revealing the egg layer and the veggies.
dyu (13)

For desserts, we ordered Key-Lime Pie (the way they’ve incorporated lime flavor is just fabulous) and Banoffee Pie which is a combination of banana anc caramel layered on bread crumb base!
dyu (12)

dyu (8)

This is one of the places where we kept on ordering and plates continued to pile up. Book readers will love this place as it has a lot to offer in all genres. Service time is really good and items in their Special Menu are the best. Prices are reasonable and food tastes real good. The way they serve water is astonishing.

Downsides – There is no facility to pay via Debit/Credit Card, make sure you carry money! The place gets crowded easily on the weekends, so it’s tough to find a spot to enjoy.

Must Try – Any of their pies and hot coffee varieties.

We would surely be back for more pies! 🙂
